What does Thinkific do?

Thinkific is a platform for creating and selling learning products. Courses, communities, memberships and digital downloads sit alongside tools for presenting an offer and taking payments. Its focus is the learner's experience after someone signs up.

Is it right for you?

A good fit when…

A good shortlist candidate when you can describe a specific learning outcome and need lessons organised in a clear sequence. It also suits a business that wants to train customers outside its internal systems.

Look elsewhere when…

An untested idea with no clear audience, or a business that mainly needs a sales funnel with a small bonus course attached. The platform cannot validate demand for you.

Features that matter

  • Course delivery: organise teaching materials into a guided learning product.
  • Communities and memberships: extend learning beyond a one-off lesson, subject to plan.
  • Commerce and landing pages: present products and manage enrolment and payment.

Feature availability varies by plan. Check the official plan comparison.

The honest trade-offs

Why consider it

  • Keeps course organisation and learner access in a dedicated environment.
  • Supports a broader learning business than a folder of video links.
  • Makes the student journey a useful focus during course planning.

What to watch

  • Recording, editing and supporting a useful course remain your responsibility.
  • Specialised features may require a higher plan.
  • You still need a way to attract the right learners.
Keep this in mind

A course platform is infrastructure. It does not guarantee that people want the topic, finish the lessons or recommend the result. Validate the teaching before scaling the catalogue.

Understand the whole bill

Check current trial terms

Compare the current plan table against your course, community and administration requirements. Check the trial duration, payment processing charges, any third-party payment gateway fees, and which selling features are included. Budget for creating and updating the course as well as the software.

Check the currency, tax, billing term and renewal amount at checkout. A monthly equivalent billed annually is not a month-to-month commitment. Start small enough to test the fit before committing to a longer term.

One manageable first project

Your first steps

  1. Choose one outcome a learner can achieve, and write how you will know they achieved it.
  2. Create a short pilot with a few lessons and one exercise rather than recording an entire library.
  3. Complete your own enrolment and lesson journey on a phone. Ask a test learner where they got stuck.
  4. Decide how questions, refunds and content updates will be handled before selling access.

How to make the choice

Choose Thinkific when the learning experience is the product. Compare Systeme.io for simpler course delivery inside an all-in-one funnel workflow.

Write down the one task you need to complete this month. Trial that task from start to finish, including the awkward cases, before paying for features you might need later.
